Filling in the Gaps

Beach

Peering out the window, I see swimsuits draped to dry and beach towels blowing in the wind -signaling the last days of summer.

It’s all going too fast.

Late nights, bike rides, sweet conversations, swimming, and weekend trips – I don’t want them to end.

Meet the Teacher, the first day of school, slipping back into routines – Did we do everything we could to prepare them?

Teaching them right from wrong, encouraging them to shine Jesus’ light wherever they go.

Knees on the ground, tears falling, I admit:

God, I’m the one that needs a pep talk before school – not the kids.

He reminds me, Parenting isn’t perfection, and that’s why I need him. Why we all need him.

God, I trust that whatever I missed, YOU will fill in the gaps.

But honestly, how can he fill in the gaps when my fists are so tight that not even sand can get through?

So, it’s the slow releasing of the tight hold, the questioning and worrying, and handing it to him.

It’s stepping into the counselor’s office, hearing the words, “Not all traumatic experiences are felt the same.”

It’s hearing Lisa Whittle say on a podcast “We are healed from our traumas by the wounds he took on his body for us… If that changes us, then we ALL have HOPE from every single traumatic experience.”

Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV)

Jesus died for us so we could heal!

It’s realizing, my child will be ok. I don’t need to carry this anymore.

It’s trusting that I (you) have the most impact on their precious life.

So yes, summer has come to an end, and you might not see them as much BUT

God is filling in the gaps!

So, we draw a line in the sand and say;

If the world was cruel to your child. It’s not over for them.

If they got picked on. It’s not over.

If they got abused. It’s not over.

If they are facing hard circumstances. It’s not over.

If they ran away. It’s not over.

If they turned their back on God. It’s not over.

If they haven’t called you in years. It’s not over.

You keep praying Mama – you are not alone.

God is greater than all of it –  and He is faithfully filling every gap with his grace.
By his wounds we are healed

Why won’t this come off?!   I was sitting outside trying to get the lid off of an old paint can. So far, the paint can was winning. Tools were scattered around me, each one failing to pry the lid off. After a few more aggravating minutes, I reached for my phone and searched –…

I will never forget the moment when I walked down the isle towards my college sweetheart and best friend.   Phil Wickham’s “You’re Beautiful” filled the air, each lyric echoing the sacredness of the day.
